More about...
Roxana Cervantes

I began with Rhythmic Gymnastics at the age of 8. Prior to that, I was involved with ballet, jazz and artistic gymnastics. I fell in love with the sport during a performance at a shopping mall in which former Olympian Camille Martens was performing. There was just something so beautiful about the strength, elegance and control of a rhythmic gymnast that appealed to me. I was enrolled on the spot and began my wonderful career as a gymnast from that moment on.

Throughout my years as a gymnast I had the great opportunity to work with a variety of coaches, each of which enhanced a different part of me as a gymnast. I began with level 1 and in that first year became the Provincial Novice Level 1 Champion. This all came to a big surprise to me and to my parents who were not expecting so much in my first year. Everything took off from then and gymnastics quickly became my life and my passion for the next 12 years.

Hard work and dedication led me to the Junior and Senior National Team. I was a National Team member for a total of 7 years. My last two years as a gymnast were spent in Winnipeg, Manitoba where the National Team group was centered. Those two years I developed so much not only as a gymnast but as a person as well. As part of this group, I was privileged to have competed at two World Championships (12thAA), Pan American Games (2ndAA), and several Grand Prix competitions throughout Europe. We also spent time in Bulgaria, and Spain in extensive training camps training side by side with the world’s best.  The time spent with my teammates from this group was like a dream and is unmatched to anything I have experienced. To this day, I think of these girls as not just my close friends but as family. This sport has given me so much more than just medals and awards, it has molded me into the person I am today.

As a coach now, I eagerly look forward to passing on all my experience and knowledge to all gymnasts little or grown that I will get the chance to work with.  Teaching this beautiful sport and being able to help in develop new gymnasts is truly a pleasure for me. I look forward to every class I teach because there is nothing more satisfying than knowing that I can pass on everything I have learned and help in creating a love for this sport in the girls I teach.
